Here you'll find films made from my own artistic perspective, exploring themes of natural beauty, travel, personal experience, and sometimes just playful creativity.
Woman of the Road
Music video for Katy Hooper. Katy wrote this song about my sense of rootlessness, searching for an elusive something while travelling down the west coast of America and into Death Valley.

Sandwood Gold
A mixed media meditation on Sandwood Bay and Assynt in Sutherland. Wild landscapes laid on gold leaf suggest the numinous beauty of these remote, protected sites. Shifting transitions speak of the lilt of mood, the ebb and flow of emotional tides and how this colours the landscape for each of us.
I made this film to accompany my exhibition with the John Muir Trust at their Wild Space gallery in Pitlochry, Scotland.

Call of the Snow Queen
A short, wintry dreamscape: Beware the whispers on the icy wind, for it is the Snow Queen calling unsuspecting wanderers to their doom...

Unmelting Time
A short abstract video about the transition between seasons and the impossibility of reversing anything that has already happened.

Dismantling Strings
Together with a group of artists and musicians, I took part in the dissection of a piano. We went on a journey between twanging strings, rusty knobs and dusty hammers, finding mysterious keepsakes hidden inside, on our way to examine the anatomy of a piano and read the future in its guts... This is in preparation for the building of the Pianodrome – an amphitheatre made entirely out of old pianos, to be situated in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, in the summer of 2018...

Liquid Postcard from the Pulse of the Night
An experimental animation using gold leaf, moonlight and video stills with an improvised piano soundtrack. It's about the passing of time, cycles and rhythms, the uniqueness of each moment from the perspective of the watcher, and how memory changes with repetition.
Psycholaceration
Just beyond the numinous lies chaos. When reality becomes too much for words, colours, textures and a crazy soundtrack can attempt to tell the story. I used splattered paintings and rust textures, cracked old furniture, soapy water and vibrations from a washing machine, with a cacophony of digital sounds. I made the soundtrack as well.
I Feel Everything
Mood affects perception, environment impacts feelings and sensitivity heightens the intensity of experience. This is a semi-abstract illustration of internal emotional landscapes, using video, painting, drawing, animation and time lapse photography to describe inner experience.
Blue Crystal Fire
Surrounded by the majestic Kootenay Rockies in BC, Canada, I spent the winter of 2014 in a small cabin in the woods. It was an exhilarating, deep and beautiful time; I went in as far as my subconscious would allow me to, and out as far as my legs could carry me through the snow.

Tunnel
Winter is DARK. It's time to go deep into the forbidding shadows... This is a vignette of depression, using the metaphor of midwinter. It's about being dragged further and further from the memories of comfort, light and hope, until there is nothing at all to connect you with the world of the living.

Rob Rides the Ridge
We made Rob Rides the Ridge after my dad met the mountain bike stuntman, Danny MacAskill. This spoof of his epic bike ride over the Cuillin mountains on Skye was filmed on the Isle of Soay, just below the Cuillins. Watch Danny's true original here.

One Morning in McBride
One bleak autumn morning in McBride, BC, Canada, I walked around the garden and made this little film. October's blustery fingers whipped leaves from the trees, emphasising the temporality of existence and the relentless power of this season's decay.
