How much will it cost?
As a guide, photography prices start from £125 and short films from £250. For this baseline price, you can expect 10-15 high quality photographs or a two minute video piece to camera.
The most common format is a five-minute video and this normally costs £500.
As the complexity of your ideal outcome increases, we will factor in more time as required to plan, shoot, edit and review.
Travel is calculated at 45p per mile from Woodbury in Devon.
Why is it so expensive?
My time, creativity and experience is only part of what you're paying for – there is a lot of expensive kit behind the film and photography that you see as the final result.
The editing always takes longer than the shoot, so most of the work will be done after we work together. There's a lot you won't see but I can assure you all the steps are vital.
I am actually keeping prices very low for what I do, and yet I still find that many of the people I most want to work with – artists, craftspeople and educators – still struggle to afford it. Life is tough, man! You can pay in instalments if that makes it easier.
Why does a film cost more than photographs?
There is a lot more involved! When we introduce sound recording, speech and movement to the recipe, it takes more time to mix the ingredients into the final product. When you write a story, you don't write it all at once – you have to compose the beginning, middle and end, and often go back and rewrite, edit, tweak, word by word and second by second, until it really works. With video, I am taking your storyline apart and making it into a moving painting via a jigsaw puzzle – you act it out, I capture the pictures and the sound, we retake if you stumble; repeat as necessary. Then I take all the parts away and lay them out, scrutinise them, match the sound with the pictures, and finally piece it all back together in the way that most effectively shows you at your best. I will enhance the sound and the colours, reframe if it looks better, add music and titles if you want them, and play it back over and over again until my inner perfectionist is satisfied.
I will work with you to produce the best value for your budget and we will agree on outcomes and cost before we start.
